Forbidden by: Lora Holland A non-traditional Victorian novel in which a charming but unorthodox heroine challenges much of societies beliefs including the deportment and wardrobe of young ladies, the treatment of the local natives on their island, and the restrictions against a guardian marrying his very young ward. Full of action and pathos, the reader will remain intrigued. |
Victoria had singled out Captain Jeffries as the man she wanted to marry when she was a young girl crossing the ocean with her family to their Barbados plantation. As the years continue with the Captain’s constant visits to their home when he is in port, she becomes certain that he is her one true love and no other man will do. When her father dies, the Captain becomes her guardian and while he promises her that she may choose her husband, due to his honor, that man cannot be him, for he is her guardian. In an attempt to learn the art of seduction to change his mind, matters go terribly awry, forcing Vic to escape into the jungle just as the natives decide to rid the island of the English once and for all.
Reviews:Just because something is forbidden doesn't make it wrong. This book is right in so many ways!

Vampyre Captive by: James Preston A Vampire Novel with a decided different take on the back history of vampires and soul-eaters. An intriguing twist of the war between good and evil, in which neither side is black or white, but each a culmination of grays. |
Xavier Damond is a two thousand year old vampyre. He meets Diana Simon while hunting for his nightly meal. She is broken-hearted and wishes to die; he is more than willing to oblige her. At the first taste of her sweet blood, he realizes she is unlike other humans. Instead of draining her, he carries her home and makes her his captive. Determined to distract her from her broken heart, he takes her to a concert performed by his father, Luciano. Luciano recognizes her as the woman he searches for, finds and then looses to death over and over through time. Xavier joins his father in the battle to protect this special woman from the priests who wish to kill her rather than to allow evil to taint her immortal soul.
Reviews:An intriguing tale of good and evil where the reader sides with evil.
